Christmas Music!

Today I'm going to tell you about some of my favorite Christmas music. It's one of the things I love most about this season! But yet again, I love music so anything involving awesome "new" (meaning I have not listened to them in 11 months so they feel new) music is great in my book!

First off, I'm going to start with my ultimate favorite Christmas song. The orchestral version of Sleigh Ride. This song is SO much fun and it's so much better than the worded version. I enjoy the ones with words but this is the best. There's so much depth to it and the parts are fun and intricate. It even has a horse whinny at the end. =) Have a listen, here. This version is by the Boston Pops Orchestra but I also have the London Symphony Orchestra's version and it's just as good. It just all depends on the interpretations of the conductor.

On another note, I've heard this song live, in July. =) Our local college, St. Mary's College of Maryland, hosts a summer concert series called the River Concert Series and the Chesapeake Orchestra plays with guest artists each week. At their very last concert in 2009 the conductor, Jeffrey Silberschlag, announced at the end that they had one more piece for us and since they wouldn't see us until next summer they wanted to wish us a Merry Christmas as well. And then they started to play Sleigh Ride. I just about keeled over from excitement!
The next thing I'm going to share with you is an album. My favorite Christmas music album is MercyMe's "The Christmas Sessions". This album is full of wonderful songs that just bring a smile to my face. It has some traditional hymns that are made contemporary, some fun traditional carols/songs and some heart warming originals. I definitely listen to this one often throughout Christmas time. My favorites from the album are Winter Wonderland, Silent Night, and Joseph's Lullaby. I highly recommend picking up this album if you haven't already.

This year David Crowder Band released their one and only Christmas album called "O For Joy" and it's lots of fun! I especially love that they do both "Go Tell it on the Mountain" and "Angels We Have Heard on High" but the styles are switched. I normally think of "Angels" as a hymn-like very formal sounding song and "Go Tell" as a more laid back almost country style song. But on this album "Angels" is very country-like and "Go Tell" is awesome! BUT the coolest thing is that they have "Carol of the Bells/Christmas Eve Sarajevo" like Transiberian Orchestra does it. And I just found this video on youtube of it. For their album they made themselves nutcrackers. This video is really kinda cool. =)

And one last thing I want to share is any and all of Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas albums. If you don't know, Mannheim Steamroller is produced by Chip Davis and the music is contemporized produced versions of classic Christmas songs. Even if you don't realize I'm sure you've heard their music in a store. The music is extremely popular and it wouldn't be Christmas to me without listening to it. It's one of those things that we listened to while growing up and it really interested me in produced (and instrumental) music at a young age. I remember one time having the album playing and I was sitting on the couch and there were sleigh bells that sounded in the left speaker and then slowly moved into the right speaker to sound as if a sleigh had ridden through my living room. It was incredible to my 11 year old self. Here's a song sampling the music.

So what's your favorite Christmas music? I have TONS more that I love and enjoy listening to, but these are just my favorites or else this would be an INCREDIBLY long post. Please share with me some stuff you think I should check out in the comments!

The Big Christmas Card Reveal!

So back in this post I shared with you guys some different photo cards that I was choosing from for our Christmas card this year.  And I promised you I'd show you our final result.  Well, you don't have to wait any longer!  I wanted to wait until I'd sent them out and people had gotten them before I blogged about it though because I didn't want to spoil it for anyone!

So... the winning card is....

I love it!!  I REALLY loved this card and of course it was hard to pick out one or even two favorite photos to put on a card so we got to put six!  My best friend Tiff took pictures for us at a park overlooking Harrisburg when we went to visit them the first weekend of December and it was cold but fun!  I love Tiff's photography (Tiffany Blackstone Photography) so it was a honor to have her take these pictures for us.

Anyway... now onto the REALLY cool news.  Shortly after I blogged about the Tiny Prints photo cards I got contacted by a reporter from the Wall Street Journal.  She had found my blog while doing a search for holiday photo cards.  She said she was writing an article on photo holiday cards and wanted to interview me and use my card in her article!  You guys, I was so honored to have been asked and of course I worked with her and now Collin and I are featured in the Wall Street Journal!  You can view the article here.  I'm quoted and she also has our card featured.  What a neat, neat opportunity!!

If you don't mind, I'd also like to now share a few of the photos from our shoot with Tiff.  I really love the photos she took and I want to share them with you all!

I'm gonna share some more Christmas fun posts this week so stay tuned!

Fill in the Blank Friday

This week has been exceptionally long for some reason.  I thought Tuesday was really Thursday and I got thoroughly disappointed when I woke up on Wednesday morning and realized it was only Wednesday.  It doesn't help that today is my working Friday.  But it's okay, it is Friday now and next week will be exceptionally awesome because it's almost Christmas!

Last night I was able to decorate a little bit for Christmas.  I put a few decorations up and I got creative with some stuff.  I even made a gift and had a ton of fun with it!  And then of course there was the hanging of our wedding photos that I've been wanting to hang for a while now.  And we've been married for closer to two years than one at this point and I just hung them.  lol  Oh well!  They're up now and that's all that matters.  Tomorrow will be filled with finishing up my shopping (I'm almost done!), wrapping presents, finishing my decorating and baking cookies.  I'm super excited for tomorrow.  I love preparing for Christmas!

Anyway, it's Friday so I'm gonna fill in some blanks.  You can play along by visiting Lauren at the little things we do.

1. My most favorite "little thing" is snuggling on the couch with Collin.  It doesn't matter if we're being silly or sweet.  I just love to snuggle with him.

2. I'd give anything to go on a nice week-long vacation with just Collin sometime soon.

3. I can't believe how insensitive people can be sometimes.  Especially at the holidays.

4. The one thing I'd like to achieve today is loving Collin in every situation.  Not that I don't love him all the time but I want to show him love in every situation.  The biggest for me being in my frustration/when I'm upset.

5. The last thing I want to do today is be at work.  But mostly just because I have so much stuff I want/need to be doing at home!

6. If I were writing my own blank today, it would say "The one place I want to visit most right now is".

7. My favorite candle scent is Yankee Candle Mango Peach Salsa or Harvest.  Both so good smelling!

I hope you all have wonderful weekends!  I'll see you back here on Monday for some Christmas-themed posts all week!

Water Falls so Gently

On Saturday at the race while I was waiting for the first runners to come back I decided to explore the little courtyard at the hotel where the race was based from. There was this really pretty fountain so I decided to take some photos of it. I love how I was able to capture the water droplets actually falling. So neat!
