Book Review: Starring Me

I recently finished reading Starring Me by Krista McGee and this happened to be my latest Booksneeze book!

It was such a cute story that was definitely geared more towards young adults but I very much enjoyed it myself! Krista McGee's writing style was very fun and fluid. She kept you engrossed in the story and the lives of the characters. I actually read this book really fast because I couldn't put it down. I just wanted to find out what was going to happen next! It was that riveting.

Anyway.. the story is about a teenage girl named Kara McKormick who wants more than anything to be an actress. She finds out that she has been chosen to audition for a new teen variety show in Orlando! She leaves her New York home to spend a month auditioning for this new show against and living with nine other teenage girls and their very eccentric housemother. The girls must audition in various ways throughout the month, however it's not just their acting ability that is being auditioned, it's their character as well...

Unbeknownst to the girls auditioning, their co-star is the famous Chad Beacon who won a reality singing show called America's Next Star. Chad wanted to get into acting and the new teen network came up with the idea for this variety show to star him. However, his parents want him to have a co-star that shares his faith and would be a good influence on Chad since they will spend so much time together. They "plant" their long-time assistant Flora as the housemother to secretly glean information about the girls and to judge their character.

Throughout her time at the audition, Kara feels that God is after her heart but she isn't sure how to respond or what it means to be a Christian. But God has placed Kara exactly where she is for a very specific reason and soon Kara finds out there's a much bigger plan for her life then she could ever have imagined!

Like I said above, it was a very good book! After I finished this one I realized that Krista McGee had written one prior to Starring Me called First Date and I will soon be purchasing it to read more about some of the supporting characters from this book! I really did enjoy Krista's writing and it was a very fun and lighthearted read. Perfect for a summer read on the beach. Or if you have any young adult women who enjoy reading this would make a great gift!

A Few Little Notes

Dear Stank, you are such a joy in my life. You bring me much happiness and I love watching you lay around and enjoy the sun or run around playing with toys. I also thoroughly love when you snuggle with me. It's so adorable. I did not however enjoy it when you bit the back of my arm this weekend. That was not cool.

My boy loves to lay in the sun and stare outside.
Bedtime snuggles are the best.

Dear heat wave, thank you for finally breaking over the night. Your excessive temperatures were not appreciated. Especially not with a husband who works generally outside. Please don't come back. But I do appreciate you leaving us alone this week.

Excessive heat warning? No really...

Dear sunsets, I love watching you. I don't think watching your gorgeousness will ever get old. =)

Waiting for the fireworks.

Dear fireworks, you were pretty cool this year, I just wish we had of been closer and did not have fishermen in the way blocking some of our view. But thanks for giving me a nice show to enjoy.

Dear thunderstorms, you always beat fireworks in the best light show category. How cool to see God's fireworks going off during the man-made ones on Wednesday! And I must say, you were pretty cool yesterday evening, too. Some awesome lightning and thunder. Way to go! I would appreciate though if you could not be so loud while I'm trying to sleep. Last night was very restless because of your noise.

Dear Yo Kool, I am so glad you have come to St. Mary's County. The self serve frozen yogurt has become a new-found love of mine and I'm so excited to see you here locally. And you're cheaper than Menchie's in Annapolis and that's a plus! I hope you stay around for a long, long time because I will be a frequent customer.

Yay new frozen yogurt place in town!

Love, Cindy

God and the Dandelion

Beautiful summer.

Scattered Horizons

Looking at this dandelion really makes me think about life. Something so small brings such a great reminder to me. My life is like that dandelion. It is small, frail, and dying. And no, I'm not dying but I will one day. However, just thinking about the dandelion being just one flower is only partly true. All those blooms are seeds. And those seeds get scattered all over the earth and produce more dandelions. Lots more pretty dandelions. And it's the same with me. I may just be one person but it's my job to spread the seeds of God's love all over the earth. And through spreading those seeds I help produce more flowers (Christians). But it's not just the dandelion spreading the seeds that produces new flowers. It takes water, the right soil, and plenty of sunshine. And so it is the same for me planting seeds in other people. I can plant the seeds but they need the proper soil (God's Word) and water (the Holy Spirit) and lots of sunshine (people showing Christ's love).

I'm so grateful for this reminder that God sent my way through the form of a dandelion. His creation is so beautiful and full of these reminders! I hope that I stop and notice them often. And as for now, I will take the reminder of the dandelion and spread the seeds of God's love far and near throughout my life. I hope that I can produce many new flowers for the Lord in my time here on earth!
